The Department of Mathematics, one of the largest instructional units in the University, provides a major support to the overall undergraduate curriculum at Texas Southern University since every undergraduate degree or program of study requires courses in mathematics. The curriculum includes academic preparation in the areas of problem solving, computing, and other activities that depend on understanding of mathematical processes. Requirements include components in mathematics, physical science, and management. Of course, preparation for advanced degrees and research programs are also stressed and made.
Producing high quality graduates continues to be a top priority of the Mathematics Department; and in this connection one might mention that Narada Walker, Ariel Bowman, Valerie Tolbert and Marquesha Foremen graduated as the university Valedictorians, in May 2013, May 2014, December 2014 and May 2015 commencements respectively. The department has been quite successful regarding a number of past undergraduate mathematics students who have gone on to pursue M.S. or Ph.D. programs in mathematics or science fields. If you have any questions and interested in becoming a mathematics major, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
